Head trauma is a condition resulting from traumatic damaging of the brain, which is protected within the cranium, and has a course of consequent musculoskeletal and nervous system problems. It is also called Traumatic Brain Damage. Traffic accidents, falling from heights, being battered, and house and job accidents can be listed among causes. Since brain is not an organ capable of renewal, results of brain damage last for life, and deeply affects the life of the patient.

Head trauma can result from any blow or accident. If the patient is unable to remember the accident after the trauma s/he had suffered, periods before and after the accident, if s/he is somnolent, s/he can be under life-threatening risk.

Head trauma, which is a frequent condition, is rather important as regards its potential outcomes. Trauma can give rise to permanent damages as a result of severe injuries in the cerebral tissue. Timely and correct intervention can be life-saving.

Signs including loss of consciousness or confusion, blurred vision, contractions in body muscles, loss of balance, vertigo and/or headache, discharge of a transparent fluid from the ears or nose or bleeding from ears in a patient with head trauma will require further evaluations by all means.

Individuals with known trauma must be transmitted to a fully-equipped healthcare center with the shortest time possible. Methods of transfer that could potentially harm the patient with concerns of acting rapidly must be avoided. The existing position of the patient must be preserved till the patient is seen by a specialist doctor.
