Kinesiotaping is a special therapy and bandaging method that was developed in Japan about 25 years ago and became known in Turkey only in the recent years. The basic purpose of kinesiotaping applications is ensure painless and easier movement and support the healing of the soft tissue.

The bandage material used in kinesiotaping therapy practices is known as Kinesiotape. This bandage is made from cotton material with fine and delicate texture. Kinesiotape is a bandage type used in athletes based on the assumption that it will help muscular activity and sports performance. Kinesiotape provides for the manipulation of the elongated soft tissue after the training or treatment with the purpose of extending the benefits of the treatment. This effect is controlled by the nervous system as a result of the stimulation of sensory and motor systems. This way, the increased blood flow in the injured area provide for better control on muscular contractions, and healing will increase together with reduced pain.

Kinesiotaping bandages do not contain any active ingredients such as latex or similar that could create allergic reactions in the body. Bandages can be applied on one another so as to create layers, and the way of cutting, application direction and area can differ according to the intention of use.

Skin irritation after kinesiotaping applications is very rare; however, it must be monitored very carefully against the possibility of irritation at the application site. Kinesiotapes must be applied with the accompaniment of a physiotherapist in order to obtain the highest benefit from Kinesiotapes.
