Spinal cord lies within the spinal canal extending from the neck to back, lumbar and coccyx, and is protected by this bony structure. In case of injury of the spine with any reason, medulla will also be injured. The commonest cause of traumatic spinal cord injuries in the world and in our country is the traffic accidents, followed by falls from a height, fire gun injuries, and sports injuries, particularly diving into shallow waters. Nontraumatic causes including spinal cord tumors, spinal cord infections, motor neuron diseases and disc hernias can also cause spinal cord damages in addition to traumatic causes.

Early and qualified rehabilitation is a must in patients with complete or incomplete medulla injuries in order to ensure the prevention of potential problems in patients and to ensure that the patient continues with his/her life independently by using the preserved functions in the best way possible.
